The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has begun the reconstruction of the E.E. Williamson Road overpass and widening of Interstate 4.
The reconstruction of the overpass is necessary to accommodate the widening of I-4. Eastbound I-4 is receiving an additional auxiliary lane from the end of the I-4 Ultimate Project to west of Lake Mary Boulevard to accommodate traffic that will be coming from the end of the I-4 Ultimate Express Lanes, which are currently under construction.
The new E.E. Williamson Road bridge will include a 6-foot-wide sidewalk on the eastbound side, a 10-foot-wide trail on the westbound side, and both directions of the overpass will include bike lanes.
The overpass will be constructed in phases to maintain both eastbound and westbound access. Construction plans allow for overnight single lane closures from 8:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. At all times during construction, driveway and property access will be maintained.
The E.E. Williamson Road bridge and eastbound I-4 auxiliary lane project is the second I-4 Beyond the Ultimate construction project to begin this summer. Milling and resurfacing work on the eastbound I-4 travel lanes in Seminole County started in July 2019.
Modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions. Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving through the work zone.
