Motorists are advised that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is implementing overnight closures of I-4 at the Sand Lake Road (State Road (S.R.) 482) interchange on Sunday and Monday, March 9 and 10, and at the I-4 and S.R. 528 (Beachline Expressway) interchange on Thursday, March 13. Each night, the closures will begin as early as 10:00 p.m. and are expected to reopen by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.

I-4 Sand Lake Road Closure Details

On March 9 and 10, crews will be working on the westbound I-4 exit ramp to Sand Lake Road (S.R. 482) at Exit 74A to prepare for a traffic shift. If this work is not completed overnight on March 9 and 10, additional overnight closures of the westbound I-4 exit ramp to Sand Lake Road may be required until March 14.

During this ramp closure, motorists traveling on westbound I-4 who wish to access Sand Lake Road (Exit 74A) should take Exit 74B onto Adventure Way. From there, motorists will turn right onto eastbound Hollywood Way, then turn right again onto southbound Universal Boulevard, and proceed to Sand Lake Road. See attached detour map for detailed detour information.

I-4 SR 528 Closure Details

On March 13, all lanes of eastbound I-4 at S.R. 528 will be closed overnight, as well as the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound S.R. 528.

During the March 13 closure, motorists traveling east on I-4 will be directed to take Exit 72 to eastbound S.R. 528, then use Exit 1 to access northbound International Drive before taking an immediate right turn onto the loop ramp to westbound S.R. 528. From westbound S.R. 528, motorists can proceed to eastbound I-4. The ramp from westbound I-4 to S.R. 528 will also be closed, requiring drivers traveling west on I-4 to S.R. 528 to exit early at Exit 75B to Kirkman Road. Motorists will proceed south on Kirkman Road to the Sand Lake Road ramp, staying in the left lane and turning left at the traffic signal. From eastbound Sand Lake Road, motorists will turn right onto southbound John Young Parkway, proceeding to S.R. 528. See the attached map for detailed detour information.

The closures are necessary to allow crews to pour concrete for the expanded bridge deck of the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound S.R. 528. The operation is a critical step in the project to widen the ramp from one to two lanes, improving capacity and traffic flow at this busy interchange.

The westbound I-4 closure that was to begin March 10 is being rescheduled.

Motorists should follow all posted signs and use extra caution while driving through active construction zones. Remember to always be alert while riding or driving. Construction schedules are subject to change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

I-4 Project Details

The I-4 and S.R. 528 project is widening the westbound I-4 exit ramp to eastbound S.R. 528 from one lane to two lanes, improving capacity and traffic flow. The project began in January 2024 and is anticipated to reach completion in 2026.
