The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) reports to motorists that full closures of both the westbound Interstate 4 (I-4) entrance ramp from U.S. 17-92 and the westbound I-4 exit ramp to U.S. 17-92 in Seminole County are scheduled overnight on Monday, October 21, and Tuesday, October 22. Both ramps will close simultaneously as soon as 10:00 p.m. and reopen by 6:00 a.m. the following morning.
These closures are necessary for milling and resurfacing and are part of the I-4 improvements project at the I-4 and U.S. 17-92 interchange.
Motorists on U.S. 17-92/Seminole Boulevard who wish to access westbound I-4 are directed to head southbound on County Road (C.R.) 15/Monroe Road and turn right onto westbound State Road (S.R.) 46, then proceed west to the westbound I-4 entrance ramp.
Motorists heading west on I-4 who wish to access U.S. 17-92 are directed to take Exit 101D and turn left onto S.R. 46. Drivers will head east on S.R. 46 to turn left onto C.R. 15/Monroe Road before proceeding north to U.S. 17-92/Seminole Boulevard.
The I-4 and U.S. 17-92 interchange improvements project in Seminole County is expected to enhance safety by improving the sight distance for motorists, upgrading crosswalks for pedestrians and bicyclists, and reducing the speed limit on U.S. 17-92 from 50 mph to 35 mph. The improvements will include adding a pedestrian-activated crossing signal at the end of the eastbound I‑4 exit ramp.
Additionally, an auxiliary lane will be added on eastbound U.S. 17-92 between the westbound I‑4 exit ramp and Monroe Road. A second right turn lane will be added to U.S. 17-92 when driving east to continue south on U.S. 17-92/Monroe Road. The dual right-turn-only lanes will stop at the signalized intersection with Seminole Boulevard, replacing the existing free-flow right turn. A right turn lane will be added from southbound U.S. 17-92/Monroe Road to the eastbound I‑4 entrance ramp, and a left turn lane will be added from westbound Seminole Boulevard to U.S. 17-92/Monroe Road to drive south.
Construction started in fall 2023 and is expected to be completed by late 2024.
